With the temperatures dipping and the leaves falling, it seems like everyone is embracing fall more than ever this year. And why not? With delicious food, cozy scents, and beautiful accent pieces it’s easy to make your home feel like fall without going overboard.
To make a space feel like a particular holiday or season you don’t need to add a bunch of cutesy holiday specific décor. Add a few pieces that work with what you already have and your space will feel like the season in a cohesive, effortless way.
Dishes: For instance, here are some pieces I love that look cozy and work with my current dishes:
- Spode Woodland Collection: this serving bowl is so classic, this tray would be beautiful leaning against a wall and perfect for serving on Thanksgiving, and this dish would look great filled with snacks for a football game or when you’re entertaining friends or family.
- Williams Sonoma Plymouth Birds Collection: these old fashioned glasses would look great on any bar cart and these appetizer plates would be great no matter the time of day.
- Staub: This Staub pumpkin dutch oven is just as gorgeous as it is functional. Make soups, stews, and pastas in it and when your not using it leave it on the stove to add a festive pop.
- Bakeware: Nordic Ware always has the most beautiful fall baking pans. I have one that makes little individual intricate pumpkin and leaf cakes (pictured above). Here’s a similar version in a loaf pan which I would love to pull out every fall to make my pumpkin bread a little more special.
Linens: Don’t underestimate the power of a good linen to make a room feel instantly more festive! I love the pattern of this tablecloth and runner, they look like sophisticated fall. And how can you go wrong with plaid? This one is only $17!
Candles: Candles can instantly change the way a space feels. I tend to go for the cozier scents not the overly sweet ones like pecan pie and pumpkin cake, but I do make an exception for this Capri Blue Spiced Cider candle. The Candle Lab, which has multiple locations in Columbus (and ships!) has some of my favorite cozy scents including: Dad’s Den, Peppercorn, Roasted Chestnut, and Orange Zest. If you live in town, its absolutely worth going to the store because you can make your own blend of their scents. My friends and I do it every fall and it’s so fun to see what everyone comes up with!
Buy real, not fake: buy a bunch of real pumpkins and put them on the mantel. Or buy some of the mini gourds and put them in a big beautiful bowl you already have as a centerpiece. Buy mums and plant them in a pretty pot, not just the one it came in. I like to buy multiple sizes of mums in the same color. This makes everything look more cohesive.
