How can you not smile when you see these nests? We used to make all kinds of “themed” Rice Krispy treats when I was growing up and they’re still so nostalgic to me. Plus, Cocoa Krispy treats are one of my dad’s favorites so we were (and still are!) always finding excuses to make them.
This would be such a fun project to do with kids. I love making them now, but think they’ll be even more special when I can make them with Guy next Easter. But something tells me he’ll be more focused on eating than helping…
Cocoa Krispy Treat Nests
- 4 tablespoons butter
- Pinch of sea salt
- 5 1/2 cups Cocoa Krispies
- 10 ounces mini marshmallows
- 36-42 mini candy eggs such as Peanut M&Ms or Cadbury eggs
Melt the butter in a large pot over medium low heat. Add the marshmallows and stir constantly. Once the marshmallows are just melted take the mixture off the heat and stir in the sea salt and Cocoa Krispies. Let the mixture cool for 5 minutes.
While the mixture is cooling, get out 1 to 2 cupcake pans. If your pans aren’t nonstick, spray with nonstick cooking spray. Spray two spoons with the nonstick cooking spray as well. Using the spoons like you would salad tongs, scoop the mixture to fill each tin. Be generous! Repeat the process across the pan. If there is still mixture left, repeat the process in another cupcake pan. Take two fingers and make a small indent in the middle of each tin. No need to be perfect – this is where the candy eggs will go. Put 3 candy eggs in the middle of each “nest.” Let sit for at least an hour. Serve or store them in an airtight container for up to 4 days.

Tips:
- Remember these are supposed to look like nests, so they shouldn’t look perfect!
- Don’t use natural marshmallow. You want the good old fashioned Jet Puffed or something comparable.

- I used my beloved Williams Sonoma Goldtouch cupcake pan, which doesn’t need to be sprayed with nonstick spray.
