Can you believe Father’s Day is this Sunday? This year is really special because it’s Rich’s first Father’s day! We’re planning a weekend full of good food and golf. What more could he want?
If you’ve left planning to the last minute, don’t worry, Rich and I have you covered! Read on for some ideas on how to celebrate and fun gift suggestions from Rich.
Beer Tasting. Why not have a beer tasting? I love the idea of buying a few of dad’s favorites or buying a mix of local beers, trying a bit of each and deciding which is the true favorite. Or go to a local brewing and get a tasting flight. These freezable beer glasses and this tasting set would both make the perfect gift and addition to the tasting!
Snacks. If you’re having a beer tasting, you definitely need snacks. My beer cheese, caramel popcorn with sea salt, and homemade snack mix make the perfect addition to drinks.
Grilling. Is your dad more into grilling? If so, why not go pick up a great cut of meat from a local butcher and plan a fun cookout around it. My chimichurri would be perfect sauce! You could also make my go-to Food52 Au Gratin Potatoes, chop chop salad, and you can’t forget S’mores ice cream pie for dessert! This waxed apron or this cookbook would make the perfect gift for dad the grill master.
Rich’s Picks. I asked Rich to round up some gift ideas to share. Here’s his list and commentary:
- Orvis fishing shirt – Great for pool days or trips to park. Which is more realistic than a fly fishing trip these days
- Milwaukee M18 Fuel – Turn your back yard into a suburban zen garden in no time. Multiple attachments. The Swiss Army knife of garden tools!
- Classic Igloo cooler – How can you be a parent without owning one of these?
- Head Gear – The only thing that is working for my hair these days is my growing hat collection, like the featured Tuckernuck hat. I’m also a big fan of the Ahead X Golden Bear Collection that recently dropped on Golf.com, which you can find here.
- Power of the Pen – Ditch the tie, make a statement with a ballpoint pen at your next meeting…or use it as a prop during an upcoming zoom
- A tradition – For the last few years, every Saturday before Fathers Day my dad and I play golf at Denison Golf Course. After our round we meet the rest of our family for lunch in Granville, a small college town 45 minutes from Columbus. I think this tradition is probably more memorable than any material gift that I could buy my dad. This day trip is something that our entire family looks forward to every June. I am excited to go this year for the first time as a parent myself.
