Spicy Corn Chowder with Poblano Peppers and Black Beans

September 9, 2021 by Gretchen Blazer Thompson

It’s that glorious time of year when the air is just a little different and we know fall is around the corner, but there’s still some summer produce at the farmers market. The perfect time for soup!

This is my take on corn chowder. It’s spicy, tangy, flavorful, and delicious! It’s perfect for a family dinner or a group watching the first football games of the season. Football and soup, now that sounds like fall!

Weekday Chocolate Peanut Butter Crispy Bars

August 5, 2021 by Gretchen Blazer Thompson

I call these “weekday” chocolate peanut butter crispy bars because they’re a little better for you than normal ones. Perfect for when you want to make a quick dessert or snack, but don’t want to make a whole batch of cookies or brownies. I know – do those times really exist??

I love to keep them in the fridge when I know I’m going to have a busy week because they’re great for those times when you need something quick and filling to eat. But you could just as easily take them to a friends house for dessert because who doesn’t love chocolate and peanut butter? Truly a perfect treat!

Seasoned Pretzels

July 27, 2021 by Gretchen Blazer Thompson

About a month ago I was watching The Today show and they had a food segment where they were talking about a company that makes seasoned pretzels. They sounded amazing! So amazing that I got online to buy them only to find they were $16 for less than a pound and you still had to pay for shipping. No thank you!

Since then I’ve been obsessed with seasoned pretzels and I’m glad I am because I came up with an amazing recipe. These would make the perfect addition to a cocktail party, cookout, snack come football season, really they’re perfect anytime!

Fourth of July Planning

June 29, 2021 by Gretchen Blazer Thompson

How is this weekend already the Fourth of July?? It’s like we blinked and it’s already the middle of summer.

Rich and I are having our families over to celebrate this year and I want to make it fun, yet still laid back. The best way to do this? Delegate! Everyone is bringing something, even if it’s just a side or a few bottles of wine. All that help really adds up and then I only have to think about a few dishes. Plus I find that everyone really wants to help, so take them up on it! A true win-win!

Homemade Snack Mix

June 9, 2021 by Gretchen Blazer Thompson

This is one of my brother, Nick’s all time favorite foods! We’ve been making it forever, sometimes a random time in the year, but always at Christmas. Honestly, I think my adult brother would find a way to lock me out of my parents house if I didn’t show up with this on Christmas Eve. Now that’s love for a snack mix!

I also make it for Nick’s birthday every May. Salty and addicting, I defiantly understand Nick’s deep love for this!

Hugo Spritz

May 28, 2021 by Gretchen Blazer Thompson

I’m declaring this the summer of the Hugo spritz. Light and refreshing, it’s the perfect drink anytime of year but especially wonderful in the summer.

I had a Hugo spritz for the first time a few weeks at Novella, a great Italian restaurant in Powell. It was love at first sip. I immediately knew I had to buy some St-Germain and recreate it at home. With all this hype, I hope you like it as much as I do!

Mother’s Day Ideas

April 27, 2021 by Gretchen Blazer Thompson

This Mother’s Day is a really special one because it’s my first one being a mom. The thought behind the day is so special – show mom how much you love her and that you notice everything she does for you all year. I thought it would be fun to put together some ideas for delicious treats and presents for the occasion.

Weeknight Eggplant Parmesan

April 15, 2021 by Gretchen Blazer Thompson

Who isn’t always looking for more attainable weeknight dinners that: 1. aren’t crazy labor intensive 2. use a few ingredients 3. help you eat your veggies 4. are delicious!? I know I always am! Enter this weeknight eggplant parmesan.

This eggplant parmesan is different because you broil the eggplant instead of frying it, saving time and making it healthier. A win win in my book! We’re also getting closer to eggplant and tomato season and I fully intend on making this once a week with local produce.

Last Minute Easter Planning

April 1, 2021 by Gretchen Blazer Thompson

Can you believe this weekend is already Easter? In some regards it feels like time has stood still for the past year, but then I stop and think about it and 2021 has been flying by. If Easter snuck up on you like it did me, I thought I would share a roundup of fun recipes, champagne suggestions, festive table and outfit ideas, etc. for this weekend. Or you could just drink champagne and eat chocolate eggs, which isn’t a bad idea either!
